Priyadarshan is known for films like ‘Hera Pheri’, ‘Garam Masala’ and ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’. He has made films in many languages ranging from drama to comedy in his career of almost 40 years. He said that today’s audience reject those films which do not have reality.
Elaborating his point, he said, ‘The film industry has changed. I think this is the last era of superstars. Those we are seeing today… from Shah Rukh Khan to Salman and Akshay… they should thank God. Tomorrow’s superstar will be the theme of the film.
Priyadarshan said, ‘I am seeing how films are becoming more real. You can’t exaggerate a story without a believable situation. Even in a comedy-oriented or serious film, only those things can be shown which are believable. I don’t think a film will fail if it has believable content.
Priyadarshan started his career as a director with Malayalam films like ‘Puchakkuru Mukkuti’ and ‘Boing Boing’ in the 1980s. Superstar Mohanlal acted in both these films. Later Priyadarshan also directed Telugu and Tamil films. In the Hindi film industry, he gave films like ‘Muskurat’, ‘Gardish’ and ‘Virasat’ in the 90s. Priyadarshan got success across India with ‘Hera Pheri’ in the year 2000. Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal and Suniel Shetty starrer this film proved to be a blockbuster at the box office.
